[2] Back To Basics-[The Statement of Pure Islamic Monotheism- Laa Ilaaha Ilal-laah]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy

Allaah [The Most High] says:

Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi [Foot Stool] extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. [2:255]

Few Reminders:

None has the right to be worshipped but He]; meaning: There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah, for indeed Allaah is the true God and the only One to whom all acts of worship and obedience should be devoted to. That is because Allaah is Perfect- the Possessor of Perfect Attributes and the One Who granted tremendous blessings (to the creation). He is the only One to whom the slaves are worthy of being His slaves and the one worthy of being obeyed. Every other thing that is regarded as a god besides Allaah [The Most High] is false and the worship of such a god is falsehood. Everything else besides Allaah is a created being – deficient, under the absolute dominion of Allaah, completely in need of Allaah and not worthy of being worshipped with any act of worship. [Ref 1]

[ٱلۡحَىُّ ٱلۡقَيُّومُ‌ۚ   – The Ever Living, The One Who sustains and protects all that exists]; meaning: Allaah is The Ever Living, Who never dies. He sustains everyone and everything, and all the creation are in need Him, while He is free from having any need of them. The creation cannot exist without His command, as He [The Most High] says: [وَمِنۡ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَن تَقُومَ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِأَمۡرِهِ – And among His Signs is that the heaven and the earth stand by His Command] [30:25]

[لَا تَأۡخُذُهُ ۥ سِنَةٌ۬ وَلَا نَوۡمٌ۬‌ۚ – Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him]; meaning: No deficiency (or shortcoming) ever touches Him nor is He ever unaware, nor is He ever unaware of the affairs of His creatures; rather He is aware of everyone, in control of everything and He knows all that a person has earned. He is aware of everything and nothing escapes His knowledge, and no secret matter is hidden from him. And due to the fact that He alone sustains everyone and everything, while He is completely free from having a need of everyone and everything, neither slumber nor sleep overtake Him. The Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: Allaah does not sleep and it does not befit His Majesty that He sleeps….[Ref 2]

[لَّهُ ۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ‌ۗ – To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth]; meaning:  Everyone is a slave of Allaah, a part of His Kingdom and under his complete power and authority, as He [The Most High] says:

There is none in the heavens and the earth but comes unto the Most Beneficent (Allah) as a slave. Verily, He knows each one of them, and has counted them a full counting. And everyone of them will come to Him alone on the Day of Resurrection (without any helper, or protector or defender). [19:93-95]

Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission?]

This above ayah is similar to His statements:

[وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ۬ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ لَا تُغۡنِى شَفَـٰعَتُہُمۡ شَيۡـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن يَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرۡضَىٰٓ  – And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He wills and pleases] [53:26]  [وَلَا يَشۡفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ – And they cannot intercede except for him with whom He is pleased][21:28]

These Aayaat attest to Allaah’s Greatness, Exaltedness and Majesty, and that no one dares to intercede with Him on behalf of anyone else, except by His Permission. The Prophet said: ‘’I will stand under the Throne (i.e. on the Day of Judgement) and fall prostrate and Allaah will allow me to return in that position as much as He wills. I will thereafter be told, raise your head, speak and you will be heard, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.” The Prophet said, “He will allow me a proportion whom I will enter into paradise.” [Ref 3]

[يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ‌ۖ – He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter]; meaning: This shows that Allaah is perfect and His Knowledge encompasses everything- past, present and future- just as He [The Most High] says that His Angels said:

[وَمَا نَتَنَزَّلُ إِلَّا بِأَمۡرِ رَبِّكَ‌ۖ لَهُ ۥ مَا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِينَا وَمَا خَلۡفَنَا وَمَا بَيۡنَ ذَٲلِكَ‌ۚ وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ نَسِيًّ۬ا  – And we (angels) descend not except by the Command of your Lord (O Muhammad). To Him belongs what is before us and what is behind us, and what is between those two, and your Lord is never forgetful] [19:64],

[وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَىۡءٍ۬ مِّنۡ عِلۡمِهِۦۤ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ‌ۚ  – And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills];

This above statement of Allaah [The Most High] attests to the fact that no one can acquire any part of Allaah’s knowledge except that which Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] enables a person to learn and acquire. This can also mean that no one can ever acquire knowledge about Allaah and His Perfect Attributes except what Allaah enables them to acquire, just as Allaah says in another Ayah:

[وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمً۬ا -And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge][20:110]

[وَسِعَ كُرۡسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ – His Kursi [i.e. Foot stool] extends over the heavens and the earth]. Ibn Abbaas said, ”If the seven heavens and the seven earths were flattened and laid side by side they would add up to the size of a ring in a desert compared to the kursi. [Reported by Ibn Abee Haatim 3/981]

[وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُ ۥ حِفۡظُهُمَا – and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them]; meaning: It does not burden or cause Allaah fatigue in guarding and preserving the heavens and the earth- both what is in and between them; rather that is an easy for Allaah. Allah guards and maintains everything, and provides for everything, and He knows all that a person has earned. Allaah is The Ever Watchful Guardian over everything and nothing escapes His knowledge, and nothing is hidden from Him. All matters are insignificant, lowly and small in His Presence, and are in complete need of Him and poor in His presence. He is The Independent One Who is Free of all Needs and The One Who is Deservedly Praised. He does what he wills and no one can question what He does, while they will be questioned. He is The Invisible Subduer of everything; The Ever Perfect Account Taker of all things; The Ever Watchful Guardian; The Exalted and The Tremendous One, The Magnificent, and there is no deity worthy of worship except Him, and no other Lord besides Him. [Ref 4]

And He is the Most High, the Most Great]
