News about man’s nature for what he is! Except the believers….

Allaah (The Most High) said:

”And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him! Thus it seems fair to the [مُسۡرِفِينَ—Musrifeen] that which they used to do.” [Soorah Yoonus: Ayah 12]

This is news about the nature of a human for what he is.  That is, when he is touched with harm, (such as) illness or a calamity, he strives in supplication and asks Allaah in all his circumstances—whether standing, lying down or reclining—and (openly) supplicates so that Allaah may remove the harm that has touched him.

[فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُ ضُرَّهُ ۥ مَرَّ ڪَأَن لَّمۡ يَدۡعُنَآ إِلَىٰ ضُرٍّ۬ مَّسَّهُ -But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him!;]; That is: He carries on in his heedlessness and turns away from his Lord, as if harm did not come to him and Allaah removed it from him.  So what oppression is greater than this oppression? He seeks his goal from Allaah but when he reaches it, he does not give consideration to the rights of his Lord, as if Allaah has no rights over him.  This is shaytaan’s making (affairs) fair seeming—he makes fair seeming to him that which (sound) intellect and natural disposition (considers) obscene and ugly.

[كَذَٲلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ  – Thus it seems fair to the مُسۡرِفِينَ—Musrifeen]”; That is: Those who transgress the limits imposed by Allaah; [مَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ ] (with regards to) ”That which they used to do.” [1]

Imaam Shanqeeti (rahimahullaah) said: He [Allaah (The Most High) mentioned in this noble ayah that indeed in times of distress the human being humbles himself to his Lord in supplication-in all his circumstances-; but when Allaah relieves him from his distress, he turns away from the remembrance of his Lord and forgets the (situation) he was in, as if he was never in it. This (behaviour) has been clarified in another place (in the Qur’aan), such as the saying of Allaah:

”And when some hurt touches man, he cries to his Lord (Allah Alone), turning to Him in repentance, but when He bestows a favour upon him from Himself, he forgets that for which he cried for before.”[Soorah Az-Zumar: Ayah 8]

And the saying of Allaah:

”When harm touches man, he calls to Us (for help), then when We have (rescued him from that harm and) changed it into a favour from Us, he says: “Only because of knowledge (that I possess) I obtained it.”  [Soorah Az-Zumar: Ayah 49]

And the saying of Allaah:

”And when We show favour to man, he withdraws and turns away, but when evil touches him, then he has recourse to long supplications.” [Soorah Fussilat: Ayah 51]

And indeed Allaah excluded His believing slaves from these dispraised characteristics in His saying:

”But if We let him taste good (favour) after evil (poverty and harm) has touched him, he is sure to say: “Ills have departed from me.” Surely, he is exultant, and boastful (ungrateful to Allah). Except those who show patience and do righteous good deeds, those: theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward (Paradise).” [Soorah Hud: Aayaat 10-11]

And indeed the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ”Amazing is the affair of the believer, verily all of his affair is good and this is not for no one except the believer. If something of good/happiness befalls him he is grateful and that is good for him. If something of harm befalls him he is patient and that is good for him.  And that is for none else except the believer.” [Saheeh Muslim: 2999] [2]

We ask Allaah (The Most High) to include us amongst those mentioned with praise in these aayaat and to protect us and our families from the evil characteristics mentioned about the ungrateful ones.
